Visit Shipwreck Beach On a Kauai Vacation
There is a beach on the beautiful island of Kauai that seems to stretch forever. On this beach is a striking cliff. The cliff stands tall with grand imposition over the majestic ocean below and it is from here that numerous weddings take place.
The beach is locally known as Shipwreck Beach aptly called for an old wooden shipwreck lost on it’s shores a number of years ago. The ship has long since disappeared but the name has remained.
The beach rests in Keolipini Bay and is also home to the famous monk seals which you will often find resting on the warm sand. These seals are endangered and people are required to keep their distance. So when you come upon them enjoy the vision but give them wide berth.
The water here, while beautiful has extremely strong surf and powerful undercurrents - a challenge to the highly skilled water sportsman but not recommended for the beginner.
Then there are the famous Makawehi cliffs. As you walk this beautiful beach under the swaying palm trees it is well worth it to climb up the trails to the tops of the cliffs. The view is spectacular and romantic. It is an incredible place to see the sun slip quietly away as it lights up the sky with brilliant colors. This is where the many Kauai weddings take place and you will quickly understand the picturesque appeal.
This is a beach you definitely want to add to your list of places to experience while on a Kauai vacation. Aside from the swimming it will meet all expectations of what a beach in paradise should be.
