When people dream of vacationing on a paradise island, Kauai is one of the names that comes to mind. It is an island known for its’ golden sand beaches, breathtaking sunsets, and romantic moments. It is also known as being one of the finest places to golf in all the world.

World Golf Magazine just featured Kauai’s golf courses citing a few Kauai’s top ranked courses.

“Let’s face it, choosing the right golf course in Kauai is a win-win proposition. This is an island that saw several of its golf courses honored by both Conde Nast Traveler readers as among the top-100 of 2007, and Golf Digest, after all,” wrote World Golf Magazine writer William K. Wolfrum.

Princeville Golf course, located in the resort town of Princeville, was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. It has a 145 slope rating and one of the most spectacular views you’ll ever see while golfing. “It has consistently been named the No. 1 course in Hawaii by Golf Digest - mainly because of its spectacular layout and its location along the rugged coastline of the North shore, which offers views of Hanalei Bay that will absolutely take your breath away,” wrote Jennifer Mario about the course.

Poipu Bay Golf Course is close by its famous Princeville brother and is also a Robert Trent Jones Jr. creation. This top ranked course is so amazing it is featured on the PGA tour hosing their PGA Grand Slam of Golf.

Jack Nicklaus has also designed famous courses on Kauai, located at the Kauai Lagoons Golf Club. The Kiele Golf Course weaves along imposing ocean cliffs, lush valleys and through 40 acres of fresh water lagoons. The Mokihana Golf Course close by Kiele features open fairways and well-guarded small undulating greens. “The lush, 750-acre resort, secluded on gorgeous Kalapaka Bay, emanates a romantic tropical ambiance that has led to its placement on Golf Magazine’s list of Gold Medal golf resorts since 1998,” wrote Mario of the Mokihana course.

The Puakea Golf Course located in Lihue, is adjacent to where Steven Spielberg filmed “Jurassic Park”. The course is designed by Robin Nelson. For a time Puakea was just a 9-hole course but one Sports Illustrated called one of the best in the U.S. Now it is a full 18 hole course and still one of the best.

As far as all the attention the Kauai golf courses get Sue Kanoho of the Kauai Visitors Bureau simply has this to say, “”When the people who spent their hard-earned dollars and time to visit our golf courses and resorts respond with such feedback it let’s us know we have a great asset.”
