Kauai has some of the best beaches in the US and arguably in the world. In a recent Orange County Register article Gary Warner lists the five best summer beaches in Hawaii with several being on Kauai. Here is what he has to say about his first pick, Poipu Beach

“The weather doesn’t radically change in Hawaii, but one thing that does shift around is the surf. Winter means heavy pounding of northern shores on the islands, while summer means surf’s up on the south. Among the dozens of great beaches, a few favorites.”
“Poipu, Kauai: Across from Brennecke’s Broiler restaurant on the south end of Kauai is a pair of perfect beaches. Brennecke’s Beach is the place to go body boarding or roll around in the crashing surf. But just to the west is Poipu Beach, with a rocky shoal that creates a placid lagoon and gently sloping sands perfect for younger children. After you’re all done for the day, go to the broiler for mai tais (for the adults) and burgers (for everyone).

We couldn’t agree more. It doesn’t get much better than this, a great place to do some body or boogie boarding at Brenneckes’ and swim with the sea turtles that are always close by. Chances are you’ll see one up close and personal! 50 yards away you have the best children’s beach in Hawaii with a protected very gently sloping beach with no surf along with some decent snorkeling if the kids are old enough. 30 yards down you have Poipu beach where you can catch a wave on your surfboard or just work on your tan.
