Kauai has some of the best beaches in the US and arguably in the world. In a recent Orange County Register article Gary Warner lists the five best summer beaches in Hawaii with several being on Kauai. Here is what he has to say about his first pick, Poipu Beach

Kauai is fast becoming the “in” place to vacation in Hawaii.

This year Kauai has been king with Matt LeBlanc’s much publicized Kauai wedding, and visits from stars such as Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Lopez, Ben Affleck and more.

Aside from those who come to visit there are the many movie stars who have homes on Kauai. So many that locals no longer pay attention to them when they see them in stores. That however, changed slightly with Matt LeBlanc’s wedding. At that time there were so many stars that no one was sure who was getting married and the paparazzi arrived in droves.

There is a beach on the beautiful island of Kauai that seems to stretch forever. On this beach is a striking cliff. The cliff stands tall with grand imposition over the majestic ocean below and it is from here that numerous weddings take place.

The beach is locally known as Shipwreck Beach aptly called for an old wooden shipwreck lost on it’s shores a number of years ago. The ship has long since disappeared but the name has remained.

Dr. Beach has evaluated over 650 beaches and uses fifty different criteria to produce his list of the top ten beaches and Halalei Bay located on the amazing Garden Isle, the island of Kauai, came in at number four for Best Beaches in America 2007.

Hanalei Bay is located on Kauai near the resort town of Princeville. It is home to the fantastic breaking wave known throughout the surfing community as the Hanalei curl. During these incredible summer months the bay is know for being like glass offering up perfect swimming waters and exquisite sailing opportunities.

When you vacation on Kauai you get to experience a special place, a place haled by kings, a place with tradition, life and spirit. One of those traditions is in surfing, where there seems to be a unique and standard code, and that is to help one another.

It is made mandatory amongst the surfers for all the older and more accomplished surfers to help the younger generation. They do this by surfing with them, giving tips and pointers as they inspire and encourage a new group of surfers to rise up and be the best.

USA today has listed Poipu Beach as one of their favorite romantic getaways for Valentines day.

Poipu beach, is located on the sunny south shore of Kauai, the oldest of the Hawaiin islands which is covered with lush vegetation and sculpted by volcanoes thousands of years ago. In 2001 it was selected as America’s #1 best beach by the Travel Channel, citing it’s unspoiled beauty, sandy bottom lagoon, sunsites, warm people, and superb weather.

Lydgate State Park. Here you will find a terrific place to swim and snorkel. Lydgate boasts two terrific boulder-enclosed ponds, where fresh sea water and plenty of fish are allowed to enter but the waves are held at bay. The park also has a picnic area, a large area of grass, restroom facilities and showers, and a lifeguard. This is a great spot to bring your children.
