The new Hawaiian Superferry which will inter-connect the islands, making inter-island travel easily accessible while vacationing on Kauai, Oahu, Mauai, or Honolulu will be arriving to the islands for the first time tomorrow, Saturday June 30th.
The Superferry has been named Alakai, meaning ocean path. It will be docking, Saturday, at the Honolulu Harbor Pier 19. The ship is expecting to be met by canoe paddlers, motorboats and sailboats as it rounds Diamond Head about 2 p.m.
The first sights of the grand 85 million dollar ship are expected to be seen around 1 p.m. from Koko Head along Waikiki Beach and Ala Moano Beach Park between 2 and 2:30. It should arrive at Aloha Tower by 3p.m.
It was just last week that Brenda Zaun in an interview with Voice of America talked about how endangered the beautiful sea birds of Kauai were.
In the interview she spoke how the seabirds only come to nest once a year and only lay one egg. If that one chick doesn’t survive the parents go back to sea and don’t lay another for another year.

United Airlines has just announced that they will be offering non-stop fares to the resort vacation island of Kauai.
Kauai is one of the few remaining premium vacation destinations that has stunning beaches and amazing island charm, without being overcrowded or overdone. United Airlines is offering their non-stop flights every Saturday from Feb. 16th to April 19th, just in time to see the whales playing in the ocean right outside your own personal beach house!
Shopping in Kauai on a vacation is an enriching experience with local hidden treasures found nowhere else and even when you venture into a well known store like the new Walgreens that will soon be opening across the state of Hawaii, you will still find local products.
Walgreen, the largest drugstore chain in the nation, will be opening up 40 stores across Hawaii and they are being welcomed with open arms as they are going to have local island products in the stores.
“Kona coffee, macadamia nuts, things that are not necessarily so common on the mainland,” said Dana Psomas, the district manager for Walgreens.
There is so much to see on a vacation in the exquisite island of Kauai, romantic places to find, sacred sites to be unveiled and legends to be told. A great way to hear the stories and see the sites is on a famous Roberts Kauai Tour, a company that just transferred its stock into an employee ownership program.
The company first began on Kauai in 1941 when it was founded by Robert Iwamoto, who soon expanded the company to include all of the Hawaiian Islands. His son, EO Robert Iwatomo Jr. took control of the company upon his father’s passing in 1983. Currently the tour company operates more than 1,000 vehicles and is Hawaii’s largest privately owned tour and transportation company. The company has just announced that they be transferring the stock into an employee ownership program
When taking your next vacation to the Garden Isle of Kauai make sure to notice all the beautiful birds around you, as for some their life on this earth may not last for much longer.
The incredible beautiful seabirds we often take for granted seeing in an exquisite island environment, such as the albatross, shearwaters and boobies are in danger of extinction.
The animals live at sea for most of their lives and come to land to mate and nest just once a year. They lay only one egg. If something happens to that precious egg the parents don’t lay another till the next year.
It is almost July and that means that soon or perhaps already you will see the likes of Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Cruise while on your Kauai island vacation.
The Hollywood heavyweights are scheduled to be filming a movie on the Garden Isle starting in just a few days and may be staying as long as four months on the island.
The movie, a comedy called Tropic Thunder, will be filmed almost entirely on Kauai. “What’s astounding is that all the filming will be done on Kauai, with the exception of a few post and L.A. studio shots,” said Art Umezu, Kauai Film Commissioner. “That’s quite amazing in this day and age of digitized film technology.”
Huntington Beach was the home of the QUIKSILVER King of the Groms California qualifier today and Kauai’s own Dylan Goodale came away “The King”, in a KOG that was rockin’ from the very first heat.
The surf was serving up 2-3 ft waves on Huntington beach and Dylan Goodale made the most of them dropping consistent high scores and scoring a KIG record of 7 “skins”!
Kicking off the opening round was Jon Jon Florence’s who set the bar high with a 7.67 ride. Beyrick De Vries also made his mark in the opening round with a front side air 360 that was unrivaled during the whole event and earned him the Future Fins most “futuristic” maneuver.

Ethanol Gas has been used on the island of Kauai for over a year now (something most island vacationers haven’t seen in the states before) in the hopes of reducing pollution as well as controlling prices by having Kauai no longer dependent on foreign oil.
The use of the ethanol, now a law in Kauai, has not yet dissolved the dependency on foreign materials however, as so far there has been no ethanol manufacturers on the island, thus oil companies have been importing the grain-based fuel from countries like El Salvador. They have imported over 55 million gallons in the last year - that however is about to change.
