What to Bring to Kauai

Sunscreen

Bring both sun-block and sunscreen, with various application methods.

Hats

Although these make good souvenir purchases, bring two hats from home that truly provide protection from the sun, including your ears. Hats with cords to keep them from flying away are best!

Optical

Bring two pairs of sunglasses, and spare contact lenses, as well as any prescription glasses you may need. Sunglasses are one item that still demand a premium price when "on-island". Polarized lenses are best for any water sports.

Wet wallet

There are many types of waterproof wallets, and small dry bags to choose from.

Evening wear

It is nice to have one shirt with a collar, and a pair of nice shorts. We recommend convertible pants, shorts with zip on legs, just in case you find a four or five star restaurant that requires slacks.

Repellant

Another nearly unavoidable part of the island experience is the bugs.

Swimsuits

You can't have too many swimsuits, we recommend at least three per vacationer. Nothing worse than putting on a wet swim-suit!

Other Recommendantions

Reef shoes, beach towels, a lightweight, waterproof jacket, books, camera (waterproof is always nice), favorite snacks, flashlight for exploring, hiking boots (if you plan to explore, and a sturdy pair of tennis shoes. High heeled shoes have very limited use on the island, so you might prefer to use the luggage space for flats or flat-heeled sandals!
